Xubuntu GUI to Add/Remove printers

September 2, 2006 at 1:35 pm | Posted in programs, xubuntu | 9 Comments

While it’s not as intuitive as Gnome’s printer manager, it’s still more useful than Xfce’s current one:

Download it from http://rapidshare.de/files/31500013/xprinterconf-bin.zip.html, and then run from the terminal (Xfce menu > System > Terminal):

unzip ./xprinterconf-bin.zip
./xprinterconf

The source code is also available:

  1. Thanks, this did the trick for me, now back to my pppoe problems!

  2. Not very usefull for ip printing. Not near as good as the simple http://localhost:631 with the instructions given here: https://help.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/desktopguide/C/printer-configuration.html
    or here:

  5. This “xprinterconf” is NOT FREE. It’s a fraud. If you follow the link to rapidshare etc. you can see proposals for nice girls in Paris, and I wonder how you can download the file (xprinterconf-bin.zip ?
Has anybody managed to do that without registereing to the rapidshare “Premium” Service ? Even a 2-days download service seems to cost 3 Euros and you have to make a phone call of 1 minute 30 seconds to a certain number … Does’nt sound quite right. Not in the Ubuntu philosophy anyway.

But there is still the problem of printing from Xubuntu. For example in the common situation of a network printer … Any advice there ?

any helpful comment will be highly praised

  6. Did you not READ my post above? I posted the correct solution – it works great. Even when I’m not in xubuntu, I still use http://localhost:631, it has more options.

  7. I can confirm that no other viable solution still exists by default in Xubuntu Intrepid, the http://localhost:631 works like a champ!

  8. Thanks for the post. Worked fine with me. The links were very helpful and informative. My printer is now working perfectly.

  9. Thank very much. very help pull
